Festival Chorus (Adult & Junior) Syllabus 2024 – CANCELLED

Unfortunately we have had to cancel this year’s Festival Chorus, but we look forward to inviting you back in 2025!

Saturday 3rd February 2024 at Reigate Park Church

Chorus Leader: Marcin Szymczyk

Marcin SzymczykMarcin Szymczyk studied at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Faculty of Composition, Interpretation, Education and Jazz with the specialisation in jazz and pop music and jazz singing. He graduated with a Master of Arts Diploma. Marcin has also completed 2-year Pedagogy, Philosophy and Psychology of Music Education course at the same university.

Before moving to England in 2004, Marcin enhanced his role as a member of the Choral Development and Peripatetic Singing Team at the Academy of Music in Katowice by performing as a soloist across Poland in over 100 performances

Marcin started his teaching career in the UK in 2008 and has continued working in primary education ever since. Currently, he works as a music lead at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School in Crawley, where he directs very successful KS1 and KS2 choirs and delivers music lessons across the school.

Marcin runs an extensive private teaching practice and organises a number of annual musical events including ‘Gala Charity Concert’, ‘Summer Concert Series’ and ‘Together in Song.’ He collaborates with local primary schools and adults choirs, including the Songbirds Ladies Community Choir from Crawley and the Sussex Gruffs Male Choir from Worthing, to deliver performances that raise money for local charities.

Chorus Leader: Nick Landauer

Nick LandauerNick Landauer has been involved in amateur and semi-professional choirs for over 50 years. In 2003, he founded and has since directed Cantamus Reigate, having previously directed a chamber choir in London, and having sung with others including Pegasus, the Camden Chamber Choir, the New Barbican Singers and Music Ensemble. He has also sung with larger choirs including the London Symphony Chorus.

For twenty years he sang in a professional church choir in the West End. Most recently, he sang regularly with the English Chamber Choir in the City, and occasionally still gets to direct some of them for Sunday morning services. Nick also composes, his expanding catalogue of works including amongst others over a dozen carols, anthems, a Magnificat and Shakespeare settings, many of which have been performed. Nick took over as Hon Sec of the Festival in 2022 and started the Festival Chorus, which we hope will become a regular Festival event. This year’s Junior Festival Chorus is another innovation.

Rules

Adult Chorus
1. We encourage choirs, as well as individuals, to come along to this fun event, but all the singers in adult choirs must apply as individuals.
2. As we will not have time to teach the adult singers notes, participants should either be familiar with the main work (Vivaldi Gloria) already, or be confident and experienced singers with good sight-reading ability.
3. Please bring your own refreshments for the breaks.

Junior Chorus
1. For the Junior Chorus, choirs as well as individuals are encouraged to enter. Choirs of 6 or more pay an entry fee of only £30.
2. We will send copies of the music to be featured to junior choirs and individuals after they enter so that they have a chance to get to know the pieces before the day.
3. Please bring your own refreshments for the breaks.
4. As there may be constraints on numbers, entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants will be notified if the maximum capacity has been reached.
