Wednesday 8th May at Reigate Park Church

Adjudicator: Caroline Harrison

Caroline HarrisonCaroline studied at the Royal Academy of Music and, in 1988, joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra as Associate Principal Viola before taking up the position of Co Principal Viola with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1990, a position she held for over 30 years. During that time she toured the world both with the Orchestra and as a chamber musician and soloist playing with various ensembles. Caroline recorded Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with violinist Ludwig Mueller and the Orquestra de Cadaques conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. She has also taught on the orchestra specialism post-graduate course at the Royal College of Music and has been invited to judge on BBC Young Musician of the Year on several occasions.

During lockdown, Caroline offered recitals via Zoom to retirement villages which were very successful, and continued afterwards with a regular group of listeners.

Caroline left the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2021 to enjoy a more varied musical life. Since leaving, she is regularly invited to play at Glyndebourne and enjoys invitations to play as Guest Principal Viola with orchestras all over the country as well as giving various chamber music recitals.
